Surroundings of Caravancamping Westkapelle

A well-maintained campsite on Walcheren

We are located between Westkapelle and Zoutelande,  on the beautiful peninsular “Walcheren”. The campsite is located around 200 metres of the beautiful “Zuiderstrand”. The beach can be accessed both by stairs and through a slope, enabling buggy’s and carts to access the beach. The embankment of Westkapelle is rather famous and offers you spectacular views over the North sea. In Westkapelle you will find several shops and restaurants and for a phenomenal view over Walcheren, you can climb the lighthouse in Westkapelle. The Dike and Warmuseum
het Polderhuis is definitely worth a visit.

Interesting places near the campsite

Zoutelande is around 3 km away from the campsite and is a small, cosy village with nice terraces and shops. Other interesting places are Veere, a lovely old village and Domburg, a well-known sea-side resort. The towns of Middelburg and Vlissingen are definitely also worth a visit.

Cycling on Walcheren

Walcheren is an excellent area for cycling with cycle paths just behind the dunes, but you can also cross rural inland through small quiet roads. In the latter case, you will notice, why Walcheren is also called the “garden of Zeeland”.  At the reception, you can buy the map with all available routes. You can rent bicycles for example at Rijwielshop Westkapelle. For walking there are plenty of possibilities near the campsite. For example a tour around the creek or over the dunes to Zoutelande and back over the beach.

Beautiful and clean beaches

The beach, called “Zuiderstrand” is awarded with a Blue Flag. Beaches with this award are considered very clean and have clean sea-water, perfect for a swim. On the beach you will find toilets, showers and play-areas for the kids. The different beach pavilions are the perfect places for a drink and a snack with a magnificent view on top.

Events in the summer season

In the summer season, many events are organised in  Westkapelle and the neighbouring villages, like a local sport called “ringrijden” (with local bred horses) and weekly markets. In September the events Film by the Sea and Jazz by the Sea are worth a visit. The Belgian cities Antwerp, Gent and Bruges are not that far away. Antwerp is only 1 hour drive and using the Westerschelde tunnel, it takes around 2 hours to reach Bruges or Gent.In the occasion that the weather lets you down, you can visit one of the many tourist attractions of Walcheren.
